Explore gorgeous gold jewelry in Washington, DC at Charles Schwartz & Son
Here at Charles Schwartz & Son, our collection ranges from dazzling diamonds to vibrant gemstones, but one of our favorites is our gorgeous gold jewelry. Each type of jewelry holds its own beauty and significance, but gold has been specifically celebrated throughout time as the most precious of them all. Our gold jewelry is even more unique because our antique pieces date up to 100 years old, making them one-of-a-kind and full of history.
History of gold jewelry
Based on archaeologist research the use of gold has been traced all the way back to 4400 BC, but it may have been used even earlier. It has always signified luxury and wealth, often found buried with other valuable items. Its softness allows it to be easily molded and shaped, while its durability protects it from rusting and tarnishing. Because of this, people were able to create custom pieces of jewelry that represented long-lasting permanence.
Due to the use of jewelry over different time periods, we are able to determine the various cultures, trends, and interests of the people who wore the jewelry. As we discover more pieces, we discover more about the past. Our job is to ensure the past lives on by restoring and rejuvenating these old pieces into wearable pieces for our customers. The team at Charles Schwartz & Son consists of jewelry experts and Master Goldsmiths who take great care of each individual piece.
