At Charles Schwartz & Son, we’ve spent over a century teaching our clients how to build their diamond estate jewelry. Whether you’re shopping for a special event or don’t know where to start, this guide will give you the rundown of everything you need to make the perfect choice.
1. Everyday Earrings
Diamond stud earrings are a staple in every women’s collection. They’re perfect for women of all ages and pair nicely with every outfit. Whether you’re in the office, out with friends and family, or running errands, diamond studs give you a clean and classy look. They’re also travel friendly, both to wear and pack away in a small bag.
While having a single pair of diamond studs is a must-have, it’s good to have a couple sizes and designs in your collection to tailor your outfit for each occasion. Plus, diamond studs are a great gift idea for any woman looking to build her collection.

2. Subtle yet Sophisticated
For professional settings, such as a work event or business meeting, your antique diamond earrings should match your outfit without drawing too much attention. Small to medium sized Hoops are a great choice to give a polished and professional touch. They give a little shine and complement almost every business attire without taking their attention off what’s important: you

3. The Spotlight
For more formal events and special occasions, Drop earrings (left) and Chandelier earrings (right) are your moment to shine. They sparkle in the light from any angle, sway with your movements, and easily catch people’s attention. Whether you’re attending a gala, wedding, or fancy dinner, these types of earrings will add elegance that will give everyone a lasting impression of you.

4. Don’t forget the back!
While you won’t see your earring backs, other people will and we want you looking classy the whole way around.
Push backs (below) are always a safe choice. They’re the most popular earring backing because they’re simple, comfortable, and easy to take on and off.

Screw backs (below) are also popular and have a bit more of a design than the push backs. They’re more secure and typically have elegant grooves on one side. But keep in mind, our DC diamond jewelers say they’re less than ideal for those with sensitive ears!
Latch-backs (left) and lever-backs (right) are simple thin bars that attach U-shaped Hoops. They secure at the back of your ear and bridge the gap between Hoops and Drop earrings.
French-backs (below) are another style of latch- or lever-backs and are very comfortable and secure, though they are not well known for their durability compared to other backings. Yet they’re still a good choice for classy and elegant looks.
No matter the occasion, the right pair of diamonds can take your style from good to fabulous! They’ll add a personal touch to your wardrobe and you’ll feel great wearing them. At Charles Schwartz & Son, we’re ready to help you find the perfect pair of earrings for every occasion and set you up with a vintage jewelry collection that will last for years to come.
